OH! Christmas Tree!

December 3rd, 2007 by Tracy

 IMC Tree !

When I’m not home in my studio, I am at work at a busy medical clinic/family practice/urgent care center. I thought our Christmas decorations should reflect what we do… so I got permission to scavenge some med supplies and began altering away!

I made the star on the top with spreaders. (Just leave it at that.) I painted the spreaders gold and glittered them up real good. I also painted one of the tubes I used on the garland as a base for the star.

It’s hard to see in these pics, but the urine cups are filled with metallic silver shred and labeled with the names of Santa’s reindeer. We tell all the patients it’s reindeer tinkle. (Hey, if they can fly they ought to have magic tinkle, right?!)

Every tree needs a skirt. Well, what better than a bio hazard bag?! Not much altering, but it hides the tree stand.

I tied latex gloves together with red ribbon and draped them over the tree branches. And of course, the “garland” is gauze knotted and threaded through cardboard “breathing” tubes. (Don’t ask me the techinical name, I’m just a receptionist.) The long blue and white things are ear cleaners, unused of course!

Because empty test tubes are boring, I just filled mine up with colored beads. Some of my favorite ornaments are my band-aid trios. They just crack me up! I glittered up the jumbo swabs, (don’t ask what they’re actually used for), with Krystal lacquer and lots of dimensional star glitter. I cut the stems down and stuck the finished product in the tree like floral picks.

I used the Holiday Magic stamp set to stamp the cardboard tubes on the garland and also on the tongue depressors. I used my Crop-A-Dile to punch the holes in the tongue dpressors; worked like a charm!

Everyone who comes to clinic comments about the tree. I’m just glad I can spread a little holiday cheer!
