New Studio Re-do Inspiration Part I

January 3rd, 2010 by Tracy

They say that inspiration can come from anywhere. So, I thought I’d share just what inspired me to re-do my studio.

big shot pro

This is the new personal die-cutting machine from Sizzix. It’s the Big Shot Pro and it has a 13″ opening. Ever since I first heard about them, I wanted one. These are brand new, and I have it on good authority that if I play my cards right, I could be the owner of one of these babies later on this month!

I’ve been a fan of Sizzix since they came out with their very first personal die cutter. I have TONS of dies, embossing folders, and texture plates. However, the large foot-print of the Big Shot Pro got me to thinking about where exactly I’d put one in my studio.

That got me to thinking about how I currently use my Big Shot and Side Kick machines. Hmph! I realized that I don’t use my existing machines nearly as often as I’d like because I just don’t have the work space. So…

sizzix work station

I convinced myself that I NEEDED the Sizzix work station. Storage plus work surface. Problem – they cost around $400 with shipping. Sigh! Plan B…

Hubby and I were at Lowe’s looking for pegboard. (Ooooooo, now what could I being doing with pegboard?!) We found a clearance deal that cost only $70! Can you say BARGAIN!

At this point in the re-do, the closet storage has been re-done, we’ve taken out 30 Iris cart drawers of storage (more on those in another post), and the new “work station solution” has been installed.

Now that I’ve shown you the “work-flow” inspiration for my studio re-do, check out my next post where I’ll show you the inspiration for the “new” theme. Oh, and maybe I’ll tell you a little more about the pegboard…

Winter Cheer – Stamp Away the Winter “Blues”!

January 2nd, 2010 by Tracy

Personally, I LOVE winter! Yep, even snow! But, for some people, winter means “the blues”. Well, here’s a little card to celebrate the “winter blues”.

scott swap winter acetate card1

“Winter Cheer” is stamped in White Opaque Stazon on acetate. The “swirl” is stamped on blue cardstock in Refelction Palette ink. (Both images are from The Angel Company stamp set “Snow Much Fun”.)

I used my ScorPal to score the Pop Rockz striped cardstock to create the flap on the left, and adhered the acetate. After punching a hole through both layers, I spread the prongs of the snowflake brad to catch the ribbon before I threaded it through the hole. I flattened the prongs with my eyelet hammer and then adhered the blue cardstock piece.

You can’t see it in the photo, but I applied Crystal Stickles Glitter Glue to the snowflake brad.

Here’s the inside of the card. You can see how the clear acetate piece is sandwiched between the blue and the striped cardstocks. Putting the blue cardstock on after attaching the brad gives the card a nice finished look.

You can also see where I stamped a partial image of the “swirl” to add a little interest.

I stamped the same “swirl” on the back of the card for continuity. This is a simple card that sure makes the “blues” fun!

Happy New Year!

January 1st, 2010 by Tracy

Wow! Where did November and December go, not to mention the rest of 2009?! I have to admit, that while this past year has been pretty good overall, the Fall semester was kinda rough. Moving to a new house the first week of classes, taking upper division courses, having at least two colds and a bout of bronchitis really did a number on me!

Well, I’m happy to say that our family is all well now, and I am REALLY looking forward to many great things in 2010! The Spring semester starts January 11th, and among all the things we need to accomplish before then, I decided to rethink the direction my stamp studio was going, and have come up with a new plan that I just LOVE! I’ll be posting lots of photos and tips on the studio over the next week as we get it all together. I am so excited because the new studio combines the best of my old studio, new organizing tools, and KILLER bargains!

The very best thing about the new studio though, is how it will help me in my TAC business. I am so looking forward to new stamp projects, creative play time, and all the new things The Angel Company has in store for its customers and demonstrators in 2010! TAC’s new career plan, new Hostess Awards program, and rolled-back stamp prices are sure to be a hit!

If you’ve ever been a TAC demonstrator, just call the office at (785) 820-9181 to learn how you can re-sign for FREE! If you’d like more information on becoming a TAC demonstrator, just drop an email to me and I will get all the information to you.

In the meantime, check back often to see the latest specials and stamping ideas!

May you all have a truly blessed New Year!

Tracy
